More than a street

Mass Ave Cultural Arts District Indianapolis is a nonprofit public benefit corporation founded by engaged residents, cultural arts organizations, and business and property owners. We are working towards making the Mass Ave community even more vibrantly diverse, welcomingly inclusive, and sustainable.

Mass Ave is Downtown Indy’s front porch.

All are welcome. Fun and festive is mood year-round. It’s a great place today, but its potential for the future as a smarter and more walkable, welcoming, and vital urban experience is truly exciting.

We envision a vibrant, thriving, connected and inclusive Mass Ave Cultural Arts District supported by an engaged community of neighborhoods, businesses, and cultural venues. That vision celebrates the authenticity of our history, heritage, and environment. It supports those who live, work, play, perform, create, and invest in our unique and diverse place within Downtown Indianapolis.

Our mission is to support and enhance the Mass Ave community through initiatives focused on urban placemaking, historic preservation, walkability, arts, inclusiveness and equity, community celebrations, and advocacy.

who we are

Founded in late 2020, this group formed as they observed the fragility of our main street during the pandemic and the potential to come away from it stronger, smarter, and more inclusive than before.

The group witnessed how the Mass Ave corridor reinvented to adapt and survive, how adjacent neighborhoods supported it and how the larger Indianapolis and regional community valued Mass Ave as a safe and welcoming place. Mass Ave Cultural Arts District was born to leverage the power of this collective identification with Mass Ave to reorganize the unmanaged and unfunded cultural district concept as a more expansive, inclusive and sustainable version of the original concept.
